2017/18 KENNEDY CENTER PARTNERS IN EDUCATION ARTS INTEGRATION TEACHER WORKSHOPS

img The Gallo Center for the Arts, Modesto City Schools and the Stanislaus County Office of Education are members of the Partners in Education Program of the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington, D.C. Selected because of their demonstrated commitment to the improvement of education in and through the arts, the Partnership Team participates in collaborative efforts to make the arts integral to education.

 

MAYHEM POETS

Grades 6-12

Poetry is cool! This training utilizes popular and relevant cultures to galvanize students and demonstrates the power of writing and poetry. Participants engage in hands-on activities, develop abilities to further construct contemporary ELA integrated lessons, and receive copies of lesson plans. This training coincides with the production of Mayhem Poets.

MY FATHER’S DRAGON

Grades K-5

This training incorporates the values and lessons from the popular children’s book and visual and performing arts strategies to demonstrate how the arts are a powerful tool for teaching literacy skills. Participants engage in hands-on activities, develop abilities to further construct ELA and arts integrated lessons, and receive copies of lesson plans. The training coincides with the production of My Father’s Dragon.

MANZI

Monday, February 26, 2018
3:30-6:30 PM
Grades 2-5

Cesar Chavez played an important role in shaping California history; his name adorns many of buildings and structures. This training, which coincides with the production of Manzi, incorporates historical elements and values from the life of Cesar Chavez to drive learning in ELA, Social Studies and the arts. Participants engage in hands-on activities, develop abilities to further construct ELA, Social Studies, and arts integrated lessons, and receive copies of lesson plans.
